Windows Disc Image Option Missing on .ISO file menu

I always try and share little quick fixes for stupid problems I run into.

Today I was trying to burn my Windows 8 preview .iso file to a disc, which I know is built into Windows 7, but for whatever reason the contextual menu wasn’t showing up for me. Surprisingly that actually a fairly common problem.

I read about 15 different hacks to get this working but I then came across by far the easiest solution, which is:

  • Right click on the .iso file
  • Click open with (if that’s not there, just double click is and choose the program you want to open with)
  • And choose Windows Disc Image Burner

Now your file association should work again. So simple, yet seemingly elusive for the last 20 minutes.
